TOOTH BRUSH TIPS

by Richard Lewenson, DDS

If you're brushing your teeth, which I hope everyone is, there are some important tips to keep your first line of defense in shape.

  • Change your brush every three months.

  • If your brush looks splayed you are brushing too hard.

  • I recommend an electric tooth brush such as a Sonicare to really be effective, preferably one with an ultraviolet chamber to sterilize the brush after use.

  • After brushing and cleaning your toothbrush, pour a little bit of alcohol containing mouthwash on the brush head to kill any germs.

  • When flushing the toilet (yes, that's right) keep the lid down. When flushing an aerosol is created full of ecoli bacteria that loves to settle on a moist toothbrush.

The link between gingivitis and systemic disease

by Richard Lewenson, DDS

After several years of research scientists have discovered serious links of gingivitis-swollen bleeding gums-to diseases such as heart disease, stroke and from mothers that have gingivitis, low birth weight babies.

The best way to prevent and remedy this problem is brushing ,flossing (brushing only cleans 60% of the tooth surface leaving 40% unclean) and regular scheduled cleanings at the dentist.

As a dentist WE can cure gingivitis and periodontal disease but PREVENTION IS THE KEY!
